Garage Door Vibration Isolation

Garage doors are elements that can produce noise at any time.

Garage doors are a source of vibrations, and if they are not properly isolated, they can be extremely annoying for the residents due to the noise and vibrations that can be transmitted through the structure or through the air.

When a garage door is rigidly fastened to the building structure, the noise and vibrations can be transmitted to the structure, and then to the houses. Due to this, properly isolating them is advisable. There are several methods to do this, and some of them are explained below:

1) Isolation of vertical guide rails or all the perimeter of the door, including the top horizontal beam, both in vertical or horizontal opening garage doors.

a. Rubber to metal anti vibration mounts:

b. TLG + Sylomer®:

This type of mount uses a microcellular polyurethane called Sylomer® as elastic element, which is a material specially conceived for structure borne noise isolation.

2) Isolation of the garage door structure. In addition to isolating the guide rails, if there is contact between the vertical guide rails and the floor, it is recommended to elastically decouple them using Sylomer®:

3) Isolation of the door motor:

a. Vertical opening garage doors. The electric motor that moves the door is usually placed in the horizontal guide rail, where it is usually anchored to the ceiling. Its elastic suspension can be done using SRS + Sylomer® spring acoustic hangers:
