Floating Floors

Machine room floor isolation systems minimise the transmission of structure-borne vibration from mechanical equipment to the building. Sylomer® is available in a wide range of load capacities, allowing the isolation system to be precisely matched to each application.

1. Mechanical equipment
   HVAC units, pumps, emergency generators, compressors, transformers and other vibration-generating machinery.

2. Reinforced concrete inertia slab
   Provides additional mass to improve vibration isolation. Its mass should preferably be at least 2.5 times that of the supported equipment.

3. Sylomer® vibration isolators
   High-performance microcellular polyurethane isolators offering excellent vibration isolation, long-term durability, and high resistance to oils, fuels and chemicals.

4. Structural concrete slab
   The building's primary load-bearing floor supporting the isolation system.

Floor composition:

A high-performance sports floor is composed of four functional layers, each designed to improve impact absorption, vibration control and athlete comfort. The example below illustrates the construction of the Sylomer® Gym Dry Floor Pro system.

1. Floor finish
The wearing surface of the sports floor, designed to withstand intensive use while providing the required playing characteristics.

2. Impact absorption layer
The resilient layer that absorbs impact energy, reduces peak forces and controls the transmission of impact noise and structure-borne vibration.

3. Load distribution layer
A system of timber battens and structural panels that distributes loads evenly across the floor while improving stiffness and dynamic performance.

4. Resilient support system
Sylomer® resilient blocks combined with mineral wool insulation support the floating floor and determine the natural frequency and vibration isolation performance of the system.

According to the results obtained from different acoustic tests carried out at an external laboratory, the Akustik + Sylomer®Floor Mounts offer a high reduction of impact noise (up to 30 dB).
